An early morning view of the Log house in Pampadum Shola National Park. Pampadum Shola National Park is the smallest national park in Kerala state, South India. This thick green forest is situated almost 35 km away from Munnar, towards the road to Koviloor and Vattavada. The Forest Department provides opportunity to experience the beauty of Pampadum Shola National Park to the curious tourists and research fellows. And this is the log house they are providing to stay. Four people can stay here in this log house. 22 species of trees, 74 herbs and shrubs and 16 climbers were recorded from here. The trees are festooned with a variety of mosses, lichens, ferns and orchids. 76 species of birds and 321 insect species have been described from here including 100 species of butterflies and 93 species of moths. Nilgiri marten, Elephant, Gaur, Leopard, Wild boar and Sambar deer frequent the Park. The insect species Parantica, nilgriensis (nymphalidae) which have a restricted distribution in South Indian hills and listed as threatened by IUCN, is common here.
