Sail fish has sent the sardines scattering as it attacks a bait ball. During the month of February sail fish come to the waters outside of Cancun and Islas Mujeres to feed on sardines that are often here in large numbers to feed on plankton in the water. The sail fish, known as the fastest fish in the ocean, round up the sardines into bait balls using their speed and large dorsal fin and trap them against the surface. They then use their elongated upper bill to stun individual sardines so they can feed on them.
