The Chancellor of the Exchequer visited home-buyers at a housing development site the day after he announced in his Budget speech the government's measures for assisting first-time buyers and existing home-owners in moving up the property ladder, with a GBP £3.5 billion investment in government loans to financially stretched homebuyers and GBP £12 billion towards a scheme to increase availability of mortgages to first-time buyers unable to afford a large deposit.
