LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - APRIL 2010. Clare Barrett, creative director, making drawings for a commissioned job. These drawings are instructions on how the end product should look like. The instructions include colour, materials and even raise instructions. These drawings are then given to the embroiders that make the final product. Hand, the embroiders, was founded in 1767. In 1898, CE Phillips & Co began an embroidery business. CE Phillips was renamed S Lock Ltd after a young designer, Stanley Lock, took over the business. In 2001, Hand and Lock was born after the Merger of Hand and S Lock. Throughout its history Royal commissions have included gowns for the Queen, the Queen Mother, and Princess Annes wedding ensemble as well as dresses for Princess Diana.
