Cyclone Hudhud Hits Coast Of Andhra Pradesh

VISAKHAPATNAM, INDIA - OCTOBER 12: Cyclone Hudhud hit India's east coast with monstrous ferocity on Sunday, killing at least six people and leaving behind a trail of destruction in Andhra Pradesh and neighboring Odisha, on October 12, 2014 in Visakhapatnam, India. Winds reaching speeds upto nearly 200 kmph brought down power cables and steel towers besides uprooting trees and kutcha houses in the coastal districts. Strong winds and heavy rains triggered by the cyclone caused large-scale destruction of power lines, leading to outages in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. In Visakhapatnam, almost all the roads were littered with broken glass, asbestos and uprooted trees. At least five persons were injured when flying objects hit them. More than 300 relief camps have been opened to house the evacuated. Indian Army personnel are positioned at Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam with power boats and other equipment for rescue and relief. Apart from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, heavy rainfall will also be experienced in Chhattisgarh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Telangana, the official said.
