Early Childhood Development Center. School in desolate remote region of Kenya. Children play outside the school on swings and the slide and the turning wheel. The Bernard van Leer Foundation works with partner organizations which take a community-based approach to supporting HIV/AIDS orphans and vulnerable children. Their partners, often grass root organizations in developing countries, explore ways to build the capacity of neighbors and extended families to raise orphans and to support caregivers who cannot cope on their own. BvL also stresses the importance of psychosocial support in the development of young children. The centerpiece of their work is the Early Childhood Development Centers (ECD).
