Japan Reacts Islamic State Hostage Crisis
AMMAN, JORDAN - JANUARY 30: Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Yasuhide Nakayama speaks to media reporters outside the Japanese Embassy on January 30, 2015 in Amman, Jordan. Negotiations to secure the release of hostage Kenji Goto are "in a stalemate," according to a senior Japanese government official trying to end the crisis. When Nakayama met with reporters, more than 24 hours had passed since the deadline set by Islamic State for a prisoner swap involving Goto, 47, and imprisoned suicide bomber Sajida al-Rishawi. Jordanian government officials said al-Rishawi had not been released because they could not confirm that Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kaseasbeh, another Islamic State hostage, was still alive.
