Kashmir's Centuries Old Pashmina Shawl Identity

In the 19th century pashm shala and asli tush as they were commonly known became fashionable in Europe and cashmere shawls started to be made entirely by machine in Paisley, Scotland which competed with Kashmir's original product. Kashmir has been famous for its shawls for many centuries, and they became popular on an international scale in the 18th century, but by 1870 the once thriving industry almost collapsed, with revival not commencing again until the mid 20th century.
