French-Moroccan Kamal Hachkar, director of a documentary movie about the Jews of Morocco, entitled "Tinghir Jerusalem les Echos du Mellah", showed his movie at a venue in the town. Hachkar told the AFP his work speaks of a very special moment when Jews and Muslims lived together on this Berber land, deep in southeast Morocco. In 1950 , Morocco had nearly 300,000 Jewish citizens . But successive Arab-Israeli conflicts and calls to emigrate to the Holy Land finally brought down the Jewish community to less than 5,000 people.
