Baobab is the common name for tree in the genus Adansonia. Six of the nine species of baobao are native to Madagascar, two are native to mainland Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, and one is native to Australia. Baobab trees can live for up to 5,000 years, reach up to 30 metres high and up to an enormous 50 metres in circumference. Baobabs are utilised by humans and animals for many purposes, including shelter and food. The fruit has a velvety shell and is about the size of a coconut, weighing about 1.5 kilograms. The picture is taken in Madagascar spiny forests in Ifaty, an ecoregion in the southwest of Madagascar.
