Place de la Carrière (Carrière Square) is a square belonging to a classical urban ensemble, with the triumphal arch Héré (Arc Héré), the Stanislaw Square (Place Stanislas) and the Alliance Square (Place d'Alliance) located in Nancy, in the historic region of Lorraine. The square and its urban ensemble are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. The square, which already existed since the XVIth century, was included by Stanisław Leszczyński (Stanislas in French or Stanislaus I - 1677-1766, King of Poland, father-in-law of Louis XV, Duke of Lorraine and Bar), in the project of the construction of the Place Stanislas urban ensemble. Rebuilt by the architect Emmanuel Héré, the square is lined with Renaissance mansions and closed by the Héré Arch (Arc Héré ) in the south and the Palais du Gouvernement (Government Palace) in the north, former house of the King of France representative in Lorraine during the rule of Stanislaw.
