The Alcantara Bridge was part of the defensive enclosure of the city of Toledo. Of presumably Roman origin, it is already cited in 788 and is built as a confluence of roads that seek the passage to the city from the east, crossing the Tagus River. The Door that we see in the image is of Arab origin and dates approximately from the 10th century, with important interventions from the Christian era. This door played a decisive defensive role in the Middle Ages, as it was the place where goods and people entered the city. It has an entrance in elbow, typical of Islamic defenses, with three canvases separated by cubes. The main bay is a horseshoe arch flanked on both sides by two square towers with loopholes. It is the only one that is conserved of the three original doors of the main square that the visitor found when crossing the Alficén enclosure in the eastern wall.
