Stains used: Hematoxylin (stains chromosomes), Feulgen (stains the cytoplasm and cell wall reddish-purple). The onion root tip is an excellent place to find mitotic phases since it is a part of the plant (apical meristem) that has a very high multiplication of cells by cell division.
