MITOSIS or Cell Division in a Plant--ANAPHASE, Onion Root Tip, 500X. The chromatids have separated and the chromosomes are migrating toward the poles. This image shows the chromosomes (black), the spindle, and spindle fibers. Stains used: Hematoxylin (stains the chromosomes), Feulgen (stains the cytoplasm and cell wall reddish-purple. The onion root tip is a part of the plant (apical meristem) that has a very high multiplication of cells by cell division and hence you can easily find mitotic stages in this part of the plant.
