Pill bug after front-body molt - Foto stock

I saw an interesting scene unfolding (no pun intended) with a pill bug one morning. It had just finished molting when I discovered it, but as I learned, these creatures actually molt in two stages: (1) back body and (2) front body. This one had just done the front-body molt when I found it. The back-body molt occurred a few days prior. Because the front body had just molted, only the legs in the back body were usable. The pill bug posed like this and waited for its front body to harden up and its front legs to start working. You can see that the left antenna is still stuck to its head in an unusual fashion, whereas the right antenna is by this point tucked under the shell in a more typical fashion.
