Steel Worker Votes on Union After Shift

(Original Caption) 5/20/1937-Aliquippa, Pennsylvania- John Brown, an open hearth steel worker, voting as he comes off the night shift at the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company plant where 27,000 employees are voting on whether or not they want the Steel Workers' Organizing Committee to be their collective bargaining agent. The election was marred by the arrest of eight Republic Steel Corporation police officials who were charged by the Committee of Industrial Organizations with attempting to break up the election.
