Concrete near the expansion joint is broken up and spray–painted orange by officials on the six–lane White's Canyon bridge in Santa Clarita after a routine post–quake inspection raised some concerns, after a magnitude 4.5 temblor struck just before 1 a.m. about 4 miles northwest of Chatsworth, Thursday, August 8, 2007. Sheriff's deputies found minor cracking and small chunks of fallen concrete on the 300–foot–long bridge. ÒThe bridge did what it was designed to do. It expanded at the expansion joints allowing for movement of the structure without causing any issues,Ó city engineer Damon Letz said in a statement.
