Egyptian workers are dismantling Ramses II statues to be moved to the new site of the twin temples of Abu Simbel (Aswan region, Egypt), on December 24, 1964. The Abu Simbel temples are being dismantled and reconstructed at the top of a high plateau overlooking Lake Nasser, 64 meters above their originate site, in order to avoid their inundation by Aswan high dam waters. Dismantling operations, conducted by six companies from Egypt, France, Sweden, West Germany and Italy, began in November 1963.
