ABU SIMBEL, EGYPT: Egyptian workers are laying the first block of the twin temples of Abu Simbel (Aswan region, Egypt) on their new site, 26 January 1966, in presence of Aziz Yassin, Tourism minister of the United Arab Republic, deputizing for president Nasser. The Abu Simbel temples are being dismantled and reconstructed at the top of a high plateau overlooking Lake Nasser, 64 meters above their originate site, in order to avoid their inundation by high dam waters.
