Abba Eban and Ahmed Shukairy Speaking to the United Nations

(Original Caption) Israeli ambassador to the United Nations Abba S. Eban (left) told the Security Council meeting in New York that Egyptian Premier Gamal Abdel Nasser's threat of war "makes it necessary to declare to the government of Egypt that if Israel is attacked, Israel will defend itself with every ounce of its strength." At the same meeting Syrian ambassador Ahmed Shukairy demanded that the United Nations impose economic sanctions against Israel for its attack last week on Syrian forces near the Sea of Galilee.
