At least 17 inmates were killed between Monday and Tuesday in a battle between two rival gangs inside a juvenile prison east of Guatemala City when members of the Mara Salvatrucha gang attacked members of the rival M-18 gang with firearms inside the State One and Two juvenile prison. Battles between these two gangs have become a major concern in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, where police have not been able to control the violence.
