2010 Festa Dei Gigli In Nola

The famous traditional festival commemorates the return of St. Paolini (355- 431 AD), the bishop of Nola, responsible for protecting the town and freeing its men from an attack by Saracens. When St. Paolini returned in a boat after freeing the town's men from captivity, he was welcomed by the population with lilies ('gigli').
