Police Officer Holding Voodoo Cross

A New Orleans police officer holds a black wooden cross spiked with nails and special charms. The cross was found on the front steps of a Mrs. Edna Boudreaux, and bore her name and that of her fiance, Ulysses Duplessis. Neighbors thought it might be a voodoo "gris-gris" charm intended to break up the young couple. "Gris-gris" generally indicates a spell meant to influence events, rather than do bodily harm.
