Third Portion- Axillary Artery & Large Branches Of Brachial Plexus

The axillary artery begins at the lower border of the first rib, and extends as far as the lower margin of the tendon of the teres major muscle, 1899. From 'The Treatise of the Human Anatomy and Its Applications to the Practice of Medicine and Surgery, Volume I' (1899). As a rule, the axillary artery is ligated in its third portion. The third portion is between the lower border of the muscle and lower border of the tendon of the teres major. The brachial plexus of nerves and its large branches are stretched for the relief of epileptiform convulsions following injury of the plexus or one of its branches; in epilepsy with a definite aura beginning in the upper extremity.
