GHANA-VOTE

The head of the electoral commission, Kwadwo Afari-Gyan (R), announces on December 9, 2012 results of the December 7-8 presidential election in Accra. Ghanaian incumbent John Dramani Mahama was declared winner of closely fought presidential polls, but the opposition alleged fraud in a nation that has been seen as a model of African democracy. According to the electoral commission, Mahama won with 50.70 percent compared to opposition candidate Nana Akufo-Addo's 47.74 percent. With eight candidates in the race, more than 50 percent was needed to avoid a second-round runoff. AFP PHOTO / PIUS UTOMI EKPEI (Photo credit should read PIUS UTOMI EKPEI/AFP via Getty Images)
