Italian taxi drivers go on strike against bill allowing for multinational companies

ROME, ITALY - NOVEMBER 24: Hundreds of taxi drivers in Rome have launched a nationwide strike on Wednesday, Nov. 24, in protest against the government's draft law which proposes marketisation by opening up the sector for multinational companies. The protesters coming together from all over the country marched in the capital as they carried banners and chanted slogans against the draft law. Various trade unions also supported the taxi drivers' strike. The protesters argued that the government's draft law would be a big blow on their sector in a period that is already difficult due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The law, which was proposed in accordance with the EU liberalization plans, is aimed at encouraging greater competition in the transport market and thereby improve quality at lower costs for the consumer.
