Javanese Muslims Take Part In Nyadran Ritual

Before the month of Ramadan begins, Javanese Muslims takes part in a unique ritual called Nyadran, which originated as a way to share Islamic beliefs with local villagers, many of who were not Muslim. For Nyadran, people visit the graves of their ancestors to pay respect, but the event is also an expression of friendship between villagers who live at the foot of mountains in central Java.
