Development of cesarean section numbers

On April 21, 1610, the first documented cesarean section was performed in nearby Wittenberg, Germany. Particularly in recent decades, the rate of cesarean sections has been rising internationally. One reason is the aging mothers and the resulting increase in the number of high-risk pregnancies and births.
