Cattle Return From Alpine Summer Grazing

Every year cattle herders bring the animals to Bavarian mountain meadows in the spring and remain their through the summer before bringing them back to farms in the villages below for the winter. The herders spend the summer living in a mountain hut called an Alm, often without electricity in a tradition going back centuries. This year brought an unusually high number of cattle fatalities during the summer, which farmers attribute to poisoning from natural causes.
