Young Beluga whale, Delphinapterus leucas, head and Tail above Water at Cunningham Inlet on Somerset Island, one of the main routes for beluga whales. Every year in July and August, thousands of Beluga whales are found in an Inlet. From the air is a breathtaking sight. The Beluga or white whale reaches a length of six meters and a weight of up to 1,000 kilograms. The animals have a bluish white to off white stain. The color of the young animals is often brown, gray and sometimes billow. Due to their acoustic repertoire white whales were called canaries of the seas by Sailors. They always have a smile on the lips. Today, more whales and dolphins dying in fishing nets as by catch were ever killed by commercial whaling.
