Grey Whales Have Dolphins for Company During Southbound Migration

Drone footage shared by Monterey Bay Whale Watch in Monterey Bay, California, shows two sightings of grey whales on their https://www.whalefacts.org/gray-whale-migration/ southbound migration , from Alaska to Mexico. Attracted to the bay by spawning squid, Risso's dolphins accompanied two grey whales as they journeyed past the Californian coast. Footage captured another rare sight from the Monterey Bay waters, of a newborn grey whale calf migrating southwards with its mother. Nancy Black, who operates Monterey Bay Whale Watch, explained the peculiarity of this sight to Storyful: "All the whales are currently traveling south to Mexico, which is a safe and warm place to give birth and nurse their calves for several months before they travel back north to Alaska to feed in the spring," she said.
