The Nazarenos, a religious tradition that has been carried out in the city of Tunja, Colombia, for more than 400 years. The history of the Nazarenos of Tunja goes back to the 17th century, when the Franciscan friars brought this tradition to the city. During the procession, the Nazarenos carry heavy wooden crosses and flog themselves with whips, as a form of penance and sacrifice.
