Berlin To Rebuild Fraenkelufer Synagogue

The surviving adjunct building of the former Fraenkelufer synagogue, which today contains a small synagogue that serves the local Jewish community, stands on March 15, 2018 in Berlin, Germany. Raed Saleh, head of the German Social Democrats (SPD) in the Berlin state parliament, has launched a project to rebuild the synagogue. The Fraenkelufer Synagogue, located in Kreuzberg district, was built in 1916 and served Berlin's Orthodox Jewish community. The building fell victim to the Kristallnacht progrom of 1938, was further damaged during World War II and finally torn down in the 1950s.
