Lighthouse Christian Academy made national headlines when United States Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos cited it as an example of school choice. The school has a policy that can allow the school to not admit the children of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender homes. DeVos said, "Parents are free to choose which school best comports with their religious convictions." The school received more than 660,000 in Indiana state vouchers in the 2016-17 school year.
